Charlotte’s Cloth Doll

Dear Sis,

I finally completed Charlotte’s cloth doll for reenacting. The doll body is a Littles by Bella, Etsy thing I got Charlotte for her first birthday. Since then, she’s been given countless other dolls. Her favorites look like “babies.” In true period fashion, I started from the bottom up.

The doll body had a very triangular shape, so I tied twill tape around it, to give it a waist…lol. Then, I stitched these rough cut garments right to the doll itself.

Could the front lay better? Yes, but I don’t think I’m going to mess with it:)

The back turned out perfect, because I did it second. I’ve never made a gathered bodice with a rectangle, gathered while sewing. It was an adventure!

The fabric is remnant for Evelyn and Charlotte’s very first 1860s dress. It’s ready to get dropped in the mud and stepped on… I mean played with!

Love,

b
